Shrimp Pasta with Garlic White Wine Sauce

Do a little dance, make a little love, cook yummy food tonight...uh yea... cook delicious food tonight woo!

Yep that is exactly what I was singing when I was making this dish. Booty shakin and all. 

It is a special night folks... tonight is date night. That is correct - date night. One night a week (more like month) to take time out of my busy schedules to make a special dinner for my boy toy. Now I know this may not seem like an elaborate meal, but shrimp and wine were involved thus the food budget was a little higher. But I think it is important to spoil ourselves every once in a while. However, a common misconception that most people have is that shrimp is extremely expensive - and they are correct - when bought fresh. But frozen? Student budget here we come!
By no means is this restricted to sharing with the significant other, I have more than often made this meal for a friend. I think it is extremely important that when you are cooking with wine that you are able to drink the rest of the bottle while eating the meal. Oh baby.  
This recipe is quick and quite easy once you know what you are doing. But it is sure to impress anyone who lays eyes on it 

Shrimp Pasta with Garlic White Wine Sauce
Time: 15 mins              CPS: $5.27 + bottle of wine              L of D: Graduate

- 10 Shrimp (if using frozen, be sure to thaw out ahead of time)
- 4-5 cloves of Garlic
- 2 Shallots (if you really don't have any, it is okay to omit..but highly recommended)
- 1/2 cup of White Wine (preferably dry)
- 1/4 cup of Olive Oil
- 1/4 cup of Chopped Parsley
- 1/4 - 1/2 box of Spaghetti 

Are you ready? Once the water is boiling, this is going to be quick!

First off, find your biggest pot and fill it with water and turn it on high to boil the water. Make sure you salt the water. On another burner, heat up a skillet on medium-high heat. Pour in olive oil, chopped shallots and garlic, let them hang out together so the garlic infuses the oil. Give it a little stir here and there. About 3-4 minutes. 

Put in your spaghetti into your boiling water. 

Put shrimp into garlic olive oil. Shrimp cook fast! It only needs approx. 2 minutes per side, as soon as it turns pink, flip them. Drop in chopped parsley and pour in white wine. Turn down heat to low and allow flavours to mingle, for another 4 minutes or so. This allows the alcohol to cook out a little and thicken the sauce a bit.  

By now your pasta should be done (it should have been in there for about 7-8 minutes). Give it a taste test to be sure. Strain pasta and put it right in your shrimpy garlicy sauce. Toss around and serve. 

Sprinkle a little parsley on top for presentation and voila! A special dinner for some special people. Serve the rest of the wine with dinner. 


  1. Frozen shrimp is definitely the way to go on a student budget! Unfortunately, the last bag I bought had a definite "fishy" taste. Ick. I need to try again, though!

  2. Uh oh... fishy fish is the worst! Ha .. sounds funny.
    I always buy the raw frozen shrimp instead of the pre-cooked stuff. I find that there is less of a chance of it being fishy and that way I can cook it the way I want to!
